My niece, (8 years old) wrote the following paper for school. She is obviously being raised right.
(with clickable goodness)
The text, slightly edited for spelling clarity:
If I Were President
If I were President, I would make it free to go to the hospital and I would stop people from polluting and I would help the poor. I would also help the people that don’t have any clothes or food or toys, and if children don’t have enough money to go to school I’d let them go for free. I would make it where people that rode motorcycles would have to wear their helmets. I would make it were they can’t cut down rainforest. I would make it were people couldn’t smoke. I would lower gas prices and tell people to recycle. I would help the animals that need help and that’s what I would do if I were President.
What do you think folks?
She has my vote.

Excellent ideas!
'Tis a bit like reading something in Olde English, though, isn't it? Both familiar and completely alien at the same time....
:)
She can run for Congress in 17 years. Can she please run in my district?
You, sir, are raising one heck of a daughter. She'd have my vote, but I'm kind of hoping that she'll run in Texas (rather than California) and help turn the state blue. But I'll vote for her when she runs for national office. :)
A very insightful soul. Children are our future. With any luck there are more with hearts just like her's.
Mine vote too! Brains and beauty. Look out world!
What a sweetheart!
If only the political process weren't so corrupting.
She's gorgeous. And her uncle's not bad, either and has excellent taste in ball caps.
I agree with gourmetgoddess. It was very much like raeding ien Olde Anglash. (I made that up. I don't remember Olde Anglash well enough to remember the spellings, but I do remember that the words were pronounced the way they were written. Hence, "wife" was pronounced "wee'-fuh.")
The only word I couldn't catch was "ploten." Rather than polluting, I thought she was going to stop plotting, as in Bush and Cheney's past behavior. Also a good idea.
The most poignant part, of course, was the part about the motorcycle helmets. (The personal is political.) Dare we ask how your brother is doing?
The 8 year old gets it! Now, what about all those other people out there?
Sara Palin gots nothin on this kid!
good stuff
