Rest In Peace Stud Terkel

Studs Terkel has passed away at the age of 96.

I always enjoyed him on the radio. He was often on NPR, and I always found him to be fasinating. He could tell a story that would keep me glued to the radio, unwilling to leave my car until he was finished.

He also shares my birthday.

Rest in peace old friend, you deserve it.

Goodbye Chef . . . Isaac Hayes, R.I.P.

Isaac Hayes has died at 65.

That is young. Very, very young.

Oh, and lest we forget - He won an Oscar and a Grammy with this song.

And where can I get a pair of those boots?

Goodbye Isaac, you were one smooth MF'er

Rest In Peace, Cyd Charisse

Cyd Charisse has passed away.

This is how I'll always remember her. I wish they still made films this way. Could this be any more alluring? Could she be any sexier? Yet they show nothing.

Rest In Peace Harvey Korman

Harvey Korman 2/15/27 - 5/29/08

Harvey Korman has passed away at the age of 81.

He was best known for his stint on the Carol Burnett show. As I've written before, I loved that show. To me, the absolute best part was seeing him fall apart laughing at Tim Conway's antics. Not only was Harvey a brilliant comedian, he obviously loved his work and loved life.

Of course he will always be remembered for that show, but don't forget Hedley Lamarr in Blazing Saddles. Oh, and lest we forget, he was the voice of the Great Gazoo on the Flinstones.

We'll all miss you Harvey.

Gary Gygax, R.I.P.

Ok, you know I'm a geek, and yes, I played Dungeons and Dragons way, way back when it first came out, so I was saddened to see that Gary Gygax has died. He was 69.

My parents were convinced that it was an avenue to the occult. Tracks like this were given to me by concerned church members. The pastor actually came to my house to pray that the "spirits of witchcraft and false gods would be barred from this house by Jesus blood."

Or some shit like that.

That was probably the day that it first dawned on me that these people were fucking nuts.

Ahh, the good old days.

Bye, Bye Life, Roy Scheider

Roy Scheider, Nov. 10 1932 - Feb. 10 2008. It's a shame he'll be remembered for Jaws, but not for this one.

Chilling, but appropriate. One of my all time favorite films.

What A Waste *** UPDATE

Yet another talented young actor is gone.

Heath Ledger was found dead today in New York.

Please, please, please people, moderation. He was only 28 and tremendously talented.

God I hate this.

****UPDATE:

I thought I'd add this beautiful quote from the father of his Ex-Fiancee' (and Mother of his daughter) Michelle Williams:
"I think Tennyson got it right in the poem when he described someone as having died at a young age but burning the candles at both ends, and oh what a beautiful flame he made, that was Heath, what a beautiful flame he made and a great talent."

"My heart goes out to everyone in his family and my family."

"The saddest thing is his daughter whom he just loved dearly."

Rest In Peace - Robert Goulet

Dead at 73 -

What a set of pipes. He may have been a bit of a cliche' in recent years, but the man could sing.

I saw him on stage about 17 years ago. He was in a decent touring version of Camelot. The others weren't awful, in fact they were pretty good, but when he came on stage, his voice, his stage presence just made everyone else seem small and insignificant.

Rest in peace Sir Lancelot.

To Him, Silence Was Golden

The world lost a true Artist today.

Marcel Marceau passed away today.

I was lucky enough to see him on stage when I was in high school. It was probably the fall of 1978, my Junior year. I have never looked at Stage Movement the same way since. I learned more about acting and stage presence that night than I ever have since, and he never uttered a word.

A master, indeed.

Rest in Peace Marcel, and thank you.

Goodbye Mr. Wizard

Mr. Wizard, dead at 89.

I always loved this show, and my geeky little self would plop down and watch it whenever possible.

I am always amazed at how many scientist claim him as the reason they went into the field. I wish I could have found a better video. If anyone finds one, let me know and I'll post it.

God Bless You Mr. Vonnegut!

1922-2007

Farewell to Kurt Vonnegut.

Do you have a favorite Vonnegut novel?

I will always be partial to God Bless You Mr. Rosewater.

May you find the peace that seemed to allude you in life.
