Finally, It's Today

We somehow have made it to election day.

Good thing, I'm not sure I could have lasted much longer. I haven't really had a good night's sleep since Friday. The stress and anxiety are killing me.

The ugliness of this campaign has shocked even a jaded cynic like myself. The Rev. Wright ads were plastered all over prime time last night on at least two major networks. The willingness of the Republican party to look America in the eye and lie may someday be their undoing.

I wish that were already true, but as long as there is hatred and bigotry in this country, the Republican party will be there to exploit it.

Please go vote.

Vote straight ticket D. Give the party of lies and hate a clear message that this country is ready to care for all of it's citizens, no matter what color they happen to be or what tax bracket they happen to fall into. Tell the thieves and criminals that have been overseeing the most massive redistribution of wealth since the gilded age that Haliburton and Blackwater can no longer siphon money out of the treasury at will.

Defend the constitution, defend the environment, defend a woman's right to make her own health decisions.

Give Barack Obama a clear and resounding mandate for change.

Yes, we can.

. . . . . . .

OK - This was going to be a serious post, but I just couldn't resist . . . . . .

If you need a voting guide, see below:

And then, there is this.

I will be so glad when we know the results.

I have to tell you - I want a mandate too. I want a landslide. I want a complete repudiation of the foul conservative policies that have created such messes for this nation.

This was the first time I wasn't able to vote straight ticket. Apparently that doesn't fly in Hawaii? They make you vote down the ballot choice by choice (which led me to skipping a few things I knew little about, local government was not well covered here).

Here's to a landslide!

I voted! It took me 40 minutes, and figuring out which polling place I was supposed to go to was a bit confusing (two precincts were voting right across a small plaza from one another, and I didn't know my precinct number--fortunately I guessed correctly), but I did it. I was surprised at how long the lines were in my area. If they're long here (an affluent town with plenty of seemingly knowledgeable poll workers), I wonder what they're like in, for example, East Palo Alto.

YES to Obama. YES to humane treatment for farm animals. NO to parental notification requirements for teenage girls seeking abortion. NO to eliminating same-sex couples' right to marry.

Now I'm bouncing off the walls with anticipation, and having a very hard time focusing on work.

I am sitting here, my stomach is churning, I am so full of hope and yet I dare not be too optimistic too soon.

If all goes right, I will burn some incense tomorrow and go and light a candle at church.

Covering all my bases, you see, saying "thank you" to all who helped and guided people on the right way.

P.S.: I removed my own comment because I noticed a typo - here is is again, sans wrongly spelled word.

I can't sleep either. In fact, I dreamed about Obama all night last night . . . not in a creepy way, but just because there is hardly any other content in my mind right now!

You know, I still have bitter feelings about George Bush using the word "mandate" in 2004, but I agree with dcup: I want a mandate, too.

Thanks for that YouTube moment. I found it very touching. At the risk of sounding corny beyond words, I just want to be with Americans right now!
