Attack of the Venomous Puss..

..Caterpillar that is.

My little part of the world spent the entire month of June and the first week of July under clouds, gloom and rain, lots and lots of rain. As a result, my yard is in terrible shape. The garden is ruined, the herb garden drowned, and the grass is either eaten up with fungus ( in some spots), or needing a baler (in other spots).

Bottom line; I didn't get out into the yard much in the last 6 weeks or so.

As I was inspecting the damage this week, I noticed that my loquat tree was being eaten by something. Loquat leaves are pretty dense, I couldn't imagine what might be eating it. Well, I wasn't expecting what I found.

This:

That dear friends is the dreaded Puss Caterpillar. In Texas, it is more commonly called an asp. It is highly venomous and it's sting is generally considered about as bad as it gets. My only childhood trip to a hospital was because of one of these.

I saw those two right away. I cut off the leaf they were on, wrapped them in a plastic bag, and stomped them.

Then I saw another one.

So far, I have found 9 of them on the tree. That is a lot. One is too many. These are nasty, nasty little creatures.

Anyone else ever come across these?

Yikes! I'd never heard of the Puss Caterpillar before. I suppose it's not something we get around these parts. Your poor loquat tree! Have they gotten into anything else?

I haven't had time to look, but I read they like citrus.

Time will tell.

We talked (on the phone) for about 4 1/2 hours Friday night.

I'd be lying if I said it wasn't wonderful to hear her voice, yet I am apprehensive as well.

She said all the right things (pertaining to the kids), but I know how it happened before.

Problem is, I miss her so badly it is pretty much destroying my life, and I love her.

We didn't decide on any outcome, but we talked. Not only was she my love, she was my friend. We had a lot of catching up to do.

Time will tell. I know I want her, but at the same I am scared shitless. I don't want to go through all this pain and depression another time.

Thoughts?

Maybe I can introduce her to my ex and they can say all the right things to each other, with no follow-through *sighs* I only think about calling him onec a month now, and usually the feeling dissolves, but it is hard.

Anyway, I take this loquat medicine for chest colds. I wonder if it is from the same tree.

I've never seen those particular catepillars, but Maine gets these fuzzy catepillars every onec in a while. They are not venomous, but their fuzzy can work its way into your skin and cause severe swelling, itching, and bleeding. I know a couple of people who had to go to the hospital because of it.

Luckily, here in the cold north, we don't get many killer bugs. Mostly skeeters and ticks, which can carry bad diseases but aren't deadly themselves.

It's hard to know quite what to say, not knowing everything that's happened between you two. I do know how hard it is to have split up with someone and still love them, even though they're not good for you. And I know that it's easy to forget the reasons you split up and just listen to the "right things" that they're saying.

I assume that when you say "how it happened before," that included her saying the right things and not following through. It's difficult to say how to proceed. Is there a middle ground approach you could take? Bring her back into your life, but only to a certain extent, so that you can see how well she lives up to what she said? I believe in giving people second chances, but that's gotten me into trouble before. With the guy I'm dating now, the second try turned out very well. With the previous guy, it didn't--nor did the third, fourth, or fifth chance.

Whatever course you decide to take, I'm glad you had such a good talk with her, and got to catch up.

Just checkin' in to say "Hi" and that I hope your extended absence from the blogosphere indicates good stuff happening for you.

And? I've never heard of or seen this creatures, but they're proof nature has a dangerous sense of humor, since they look adorably pettable. *shiver*

Hopefully, the furry caterpillar things pictured here have not eaten Ken. Because some of those Southern bugs are scary bad, and if he had been eaten by one, I would be sad.

Now if he has been eaten by a chupacabra, I will be both sad and amazed.
