School's Out!!

Finally, the last day of school!!

Clinton had 8th grade graduation today. Dylan just had to show up and be counted. We are done until Fall.

Dad is ready for the (only slightly) slower pace that summer brings. It also brings extended visits to Mom.

Not so thrilled about that. I'll find ways to manage.

Meanwhile, here a few (clickable) pictures of the last day of school.

Zoe is glad school's out!

Dylan and Clinton on the last day!

After graduation, Clinton and Molly

Can we stop taking pictures yet?

Finally! A smile!

btw - I leave for the State Convention tomorrow!!! (Go Obama!) Stay tuned for updates on the convention!!

Yay! indeed.

The weather was so sucky today, but I'm already more relaxed.

And thanks, yeah, I'm kinda partial to those kids.

:)

Now for a whole summer of nothing to do...how I remember.

Do us proud at the convention. I will look forward to the reports.

May I ask something?

Considering that parents do not get much holidays in the US, how does one cope with kids being out of school for months?

One certainly can not send them to summer camp for the duration, can one?

Oh joy! Oh happiness!! Summer vacation is so great. Having the kiddos home is the BEST.

Really nice lighting in the photo with Clinton and the young lady in the polka dot dress. Love the happy, relaxed photo of Dylan. And of course, with Zoe's million-watt smile, who needs a flash?!

Congratulations, Clinton! Have a great summer break, kids!

Can't wait to hear about your weekend, too, Dad!

Petra -

Actually you can, although you might have to cobble together several different camps to make it happen.

When I was a wee thing, there were some times - like when Mom worked at the post office - where I could go to work with her. Not such a good thing when she was logging. So, there were also babysitters once in a while. When I got to be a bit older, I was involved in 4H so I was busy with projects and could spend a lot of time hanging out at the farm or with the 4H leader at her country place or hanging out at home, which meant taking care of bunnies and the garden and wandering in the woods and eventually falling in with the deliquent boys and causing much trouble - trouble my mother would be horrified to learn about (sorry mom). I also went to summer school quite a bit or 4H camp or summer vacation Bible school (gack) and as soon as i was legal, I went to work as a summer janitor at a high school.

But to be brutally honest, a lot of time, I was left to my own devices. I lived in a small town. We thought nothing of biking 10 miles to the nearest town or going to the swimming hole by ourselves. I am honestly surprised that I made it out of childhood alive, now that I look back on it. But it was also a very different time. I imagine it would be much more difficult now....

School being out . . . I can still tune into the glorious feeling of escape/release so easily.

My oldest is really sad that she doesn't get to start American high school (like Clinton!) next fall. One of life's big steps.

@ Gourmetgoddess:

Thanks for your explanation. Interesting for me was that you described your experiences from the past. Today I can not see many children happily spending lengthy amounts of time unsupervised, enjoying their holidays free from school and parents.

So it seems to be either camp (and supervision) or one parent having a nervous breakdown from having to supervise and entertain kids all summer long.

Or is that too much of a black & white view only?
