Being a proper Foodie, how have I never heard of this film?
Have any of you ever seen Tampopo? Here are two clips from this film.
I must see it.

How his naked ears were tortured by the sirens sweetly singing

have you seen the taiwanese movie called "eat, drink, man, woman"? it's older and kinda cute, but about a widower and father of three girls who is a chef at a big time restaurant. he shows affection the only way he knows how, but cooking large elaborate meals for them...it's cute
oh, and yay! blogger works w/ my foreign language format!
Good luck in seeing this Sir Robin. It looks great, I agree with you, but i just looked for it on netflix and they do not have it, so I am at a loss at how to see it. If you figure out how, let me know.
Brandann -
No!! i saw that while I was looking for this one!!!
I need to see them both!!
boxer rebel - No, neither netflix or my club have it, and it is 50 bucks at Amazon.
:(
I'm on a mission!!
Eat, Drink, Man, Woman is a definite classic. I highly recommend it.
I hate to say it, but in this clip, the whole egg thing? not working for me. But egg yolk is also not a texture I like. Truly, not into slimy gelatinous things.....

Well, no, but it looks so cool!!
I have to agree with gourmetgoddess: this clip isn't doing it for me. I have nothing against egg yolks, and love what they can do for things (mmm, custard...) but raw? In my mouth? Blech.
That said, yes, it does look cool. Wonder how many takes it took to get that one right!
"Tampopo" is a gem, a movie I watch about once a year.
And then I go out and eat.
Petra - Where did you find it?
Netflix.
Some smaller, well assorted video stores carry the movie too.
Oops - sorry - too early in the morning. I should never post before my first cup of coffee.
No, not Netflix. The video store around the corner has it. Tape, of course, not on DVD, but that doesn't matter.
