C. O.T.L. Update

HELP!!!

Tonight is supposed to be the deadline for submitting posts for the Carnival Of The Liberals #64.

I may have to extend it.

I have received a few submissions. Let me be polite and say They Suck They are lacking in the proper clarity and message I feel is needed to convey the desired effect.

Submissions may be made here.

Sir Robin -

Sadly, I do not write upon the topic you selected. Good luck in finding good quality submissions, though!

Thanks for playing along with the book meme. I am writing my own meme with questions I want to know the answers to (not the normal dumb ones). But today is another perfect weather day. M is taking me on a date. He dropped me off at work and promised to come back with my car gassed up and washed, then we are hitting the taco trail for tacos, mexican beer and mariachi music. Hope you have a excellent day down where you have real Mexican food.

Ah, heck. I'm up to my elbows in grading and won't have a clear brain for a few days.

If you do extend it, I may find time to write at least a few not-too-sucky paragraphs.

Seriously, though, I have Frozen Brain. You're very lucky I'm not grading your paper about right now because I'm not easily impressed when I have Frozen Brain.

i am working on one...not so much working on as beating my head on the desk. i think i am more progressive than i would say liberal, but i have a story about my great turn from the "dark side".

i will see if i can knock it out tomorrow.

I am decidedly progressive and not liberal (the poly sci major in me screams NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO when progressives declare themselves liberals) and I am always way too bitchy for an upbeat piece about it.

But I hope you do get some really good submissions

Ahhh Red Queen and Ouyandan,

You are both so young. Too young to remember that Progressives are Liberals. It's just that in the early eighties Liberal became a dirty word, so Liberals had to re-invent themselves as Progressives. To an entire generation of voters Liberal is now equated to loony and out of touch with the main stream. (another Republican lie, most Americans strongly align themselves with Liberal domestic polices.)

I want to reclaim the word Liberal, I'm Liberal and proud of it! Pre-Reagan, Politicians ran to the word Liberal and away from the word Conservative.

That's the way it should be.

no no no no! that is not what i meant.

i am liberal there is no doubt about that.

it is not a dirty word to me. i am still struggling w/ my niche. i think of myself as a progressive liberal. i see the alignment there.

it's complicated, and not the easiest thing for me to explain. it's not b/c i am too young to remember, i just didn't really get it until recently.

but, like i said, i am working on something.

What I'm saying is, you can't be a progressive without being a liberal.

:)

btw - Red Queen

and I am always way too bitchy for an upbeat piece about it.

NO!! I refuse to believe that!!

:)

I don't usually delve into political topics--except today--so I'm not quite sure what I'd write. That's why I haven't offered thus far. Any suggestions for topics you'd like to see? That might help me--and I do have a little free time now.

Actually BSR- Liberal has only in the last 60 or so years come to mean progressive. Probably around FDR in the US, but everywhere else in the world Liberal means free-trader, Adam Smith followers, not socially progressive.

I don't think liberal is a dirty word. But I'm not one of them.

I had wanted to contribute, but with everything that's happened in the last couple of weeks, my brain hasn't been in the right place. Oy. Let me know if it's extended and I will try to write a worthy piece for your Carnival. :)

Celtic,

I am so, so sorry about your sister in law.

Please know the you and Rua have both been in my thoughts.

I'm here to apologize, too. I have to leave town and I just never found the time to fit it in.

I hate leaving things undone.
