Just To Let You Know . . . . . .

Yes, I'm still here. No, I'm not doing that.

My 4th of July was very, very nice. D&L had a party at the bayhouse and it couldn't have been any nicer. We had a much needed thunderstorm roll through that morning, and it remained cloudy most of the day. The weather was substantially cooler than normal for this time of year, and the clouds rolled away just in time for sunset and fireworks. There were upwards of about 70 people or so by my count and there was BBQ, boating, fireworks and a wonderfully diverse group of people. I had a chance to see a few people I haven't seen in a long time. It was nice.

Saturday and Sunday, I was a bit under the weather. Sunday, I did manage to watch that epic Wimbledon battle. I was pulling for Federer, but my hat is off to Nadal. To be that good on clay and on grass is beyond impressive.

Yesterday after work, I went to the grocery store, and I felt really, really old. The in-store music was early-mid eighties new wave.

In the grocery store.

I was out of high school when those songs were popular and now they are deemed unobtrusive enough to be background music in a grocery store. The Clash, the Police, the Motels, the Romantics, the Talking Heads for Christ's sake!! I enjoyed the music, so I guess I'm officially in their target demographic.

I wish I could remember all of the songs they played, but I remember this one was playing as I walked out of the door. It was always a favorite, but I'm not sure I'd call it New Wave. I know he wouldn't.

Is he really rocking a mullet? Shit, I am old. I remember thinking how cool his hair looked in that video.

Have a great humpday.

Was wondering where you were.

Not just the mullet--the flannel shirt with the cut off sleeves and the high waisted jeans!

I heard some of my favorite music the other day, too.

In Walgreen's. /sigh/

My favorite Robert Plant song.
They were playing that in the grocery store? Wow.
I've never thought of it before, but they don't play music in English grocery stores -- or in Boot's (Walgreen's equivalent).

My feelings about the Epic Wimbledon Final match yours exactly. I keep thinking that I will get around to posting about it . . . before Wimbledon 2009.

I'm glad that you had a good 4th, but you didn't mention the food! You know I've got to know about the food!

Christina -

I'm around, I just get in these moods where I don't feel like any of my thoughts are worth everyone's time to read. It really struck me when the Clash came on. To me their music always said rebellion.

*sigh* Now it just says, "Clean up on aisle three."

Bee -

Really? That is my favorite one too. I was HUGE into Robert Plant back in the day. Pretty much up to Manic Nirvana anyways.

Can you believe that set four tie-breaker? I thought for sure it was over then. Epic. No hyperbole at all, that was an epic match.

The food was really good. Lisa's brother (also named Kenny), is a competitive BBQ'er (misplaced apostrophe?) He has one of those huge custom pits on a trailer with running water and a complete kitchen on wheels. He made brisket, chickens, sausage and beans. Everyone who came brought something, so there was potato salad, potato casserole, coleslaw, desserts, salads, etc.... tons to eat. I made cocktail meatballs, brownies, and tortilla roll ups.

btw - The boys are leaving tomorrow.

Glad to know you're still among the blogging.

Isn't it pitiful that "our" music is now the equivalent of elevator music?

sigh.

I know what you mean about the who-cares-what-I-think mindset. Plus, in my case, lately I've been very busy, some of it happily busy.

Don't forget that there's at least a handful of us out here who would be interested if you started quoting from the phone book for the heck of it.

Have a great summer and stay in touch!

Oh, and my cat was very interested in the video -- for about 2 minutes.
