When visiting the tropics I stick with my vodka tonics. Only then they get called Malaria tonics. My excuse for drinking nightly is disease prevention.
Also: Whenever my mom and I stay at a hotel, be it in San Diego when she visits, or in NYC at the Waldorf (she thinks she's so fancy...) one of my favorite activities is going down to the bar late-night, alone, eating peanuts, and chatting up strangers. You meet the most interesting people that way, or at the very least, cute British businessmen. Either way, vacationing alone can be a blast, and I hope you have one, and perhaps make a few new friends.

PS- have a fabulous trip
Brave Sir Robin, I hope your trip is surprising and wonderful and becomes one of those "who ever would have thought" moments.
Failing that, I hope it's relaxing and beautiful.
I usually avoid fruity drinks too, but a pina colada by the pool is heavenly, and that's FINAL.
