The Movie Quote Meme ***UPDATE***

Ok - I didn't think it would be this hard!! The hardest one was, (I thought) #6.
I've added a few hints. FINAL HINTS!!

Shamelessly stolen from:

Tart
Minstrel Boy
Boxer Rebel

NO CHEATING!!!

Instructions: Look up 15 of your favorite films on IMDb and take a quote from each. List them below. When someone guesses the quote correctly, cross it off the list. Leave a comment with your answers. And NO CHEATING.

Did I mention NO CHEATING?? Most of these are EASY.

1.

If you have the tooth of a whale, you must have the jaw of a whale to yield it.Whale Rider(Boxer Rebel)

2. - I thought this would be an easy one! It is from my all time favorite film.

I do, I offer a complete and utter retraction. The imputation was totally without basis in fact, and was in no way fair comment, and was motivated purely by malice, and I deeply regret any distress that my comments may have caused you, or your family, and I hereby undertake not to repeat any such slander at any time in the future. A Fish Called Wanda (Erica)

3. - A quirky little indie film, but brilliant. No Cowbell needed. If this film had a soundtrack LP, there would be lots of Bad Company on it. I don't think there is one available, but I'd buy it if there was. The female lead in this film is better known as a TV star, but she is awesome in this (updated) iconic roll. . . . "Damn Spot" SHAKESPEARE NEVER IMAGINED THE 70'S, BUT HE WOULD HAVE LOVED THIS. IT CAPTURES THE ESSENCE OF THE PLAY. AMBITION, GREED = DOWNFALL.

We're not bad people, Mac... just underachievers who have to make up for lost time. Scotland, PA. (Boxer Rebel)

4. - Maybe the hardest on the list - Foodie's should know this film.

Hey, hey, fucking guy! What this is: "too much"? HEY! It is never "too much"; it is only "not enough"! Bite your teeth into the ass of life and drag it to you! HEY! Big Night (Bekitty)

5. - A Classic, star director and a bevy of stars in it. Lots of good quotes in this one. Most of them would give it away. KEEP TRYING!!!! A Mother and daughter in real life play Mother and daughter in this film. Kathleen Turner is glad she wasn't in it. OK READERS - WHO PAYS ATTENTION? WHAT DAVID LYNCH MOVIE AM I?

My dog barks some. Mentally you picture my dog, but I have not told you the type of dog which I have. Perhaps you even picture Toto, from "The Wizard of Oz." But I warn you, my dog is always with me. WOOF! Wild At Heart (Bee)

6.

We're more of the love, blood, and rhetoric school. Well, we can do you blood and love without the rhetoric, and we can do you blood and rhetoric without the love, and we can do you all three concurrent or consecutive. But we can't give you love and rhetoric without the blood. Blood is compulsory. They're all blood, you see.Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead (Boxer Rebel)

7.

Well, I believe in the soul, the cock, the pussy, the small of a woman's back, the hanging curve ball, high fiber, good scotch, that the novels of Susan Sontag are self-indulgent, overrated crap. I believe Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone. I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing Astroturf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, soft, wet kisses that last three days. Bull Durham (Tart and exacalacalac)

8. - Thought this would be easy - the person who spoke this won a freaking OSCAR for this role. If you haven't seen it Shame on you!!

You didn't want a blowjob so the least I could do is get you a tie. Mighty Aphrodite (Angelos)

9.

Imagine you're a deer. You're prancing along. You get thirsty. You spot a little brook. You put your little deer lips down to the cool, clear water - BAM. A fuckin' bullet rips off part of your head. Your brains are lying on the ground in little bloody pieces. Now I ask ya, would you give a fuck what kind of pants the son-of-a-bitch who shot you was wearing? My Cousin Vinny(Thunderbird)

10. - Not mainstream, but if you read my blog, I'll bet you've seen it. Great ENSEMBLE work.

If there's an empty space, just fill it with a line, that's what I like to do. Even if it's from another show. Waiting For Guffman (Angelos and Maurinsky)

11. Oldest film in my list. Iconic Hollywood actor. He doesn't say all that much, but there are a ton of quotable lines in it. SELECTED FOR THE LIBRARY OF CONGRESS NATIONAL FILM REGISTRY IN 1996. - THE ACTOR/DIRECTOR IN THIS FILM CALLS IT HIS FAVORITE. THE DIRECTORS GUILD OF AMERICA CREATED A RULE AFTER SOMETHING HAPPENED IN THIS FILM. - CONSIDERED A "REVISIONIST" WESTERN.

To hell with them fellas. Buzzards gotta eat, same as worms. The outlaw Josie Wales (Thunderbird)

12.

Well a sure and steady hand did this. This ain't no squirrelly amateur. This is the work of a salty dog. You can tell by the cleanliness of the carnage. Now a kill-crazy rampage though it may be, all the colors are kept within the lines. If you was a moron, you could almost admire it. Kill Bill (Disgruntled Chemist)

13. - Least mainstream film, but the quote gives it away!! This actor is a favorite on the blogs.

I was dreamin'. Dreamin' my dick was out and I was checkin' to see if that infected bump on the head of it had filled with pus again. If it had, I was gonna name it after my ex-wife Priscilla and bust it by jackin' off. Or I'd like to think that's what I'd do. Dreams let you think like that. Truth was, I hadn't had a hard-on in years. Bubba Ho-Tep (Erica)

14.

Lesbian? Her birthday's in March. I thought she was a Pisces. Bend It Like Beckham (Anne)

15. - The person who said this has since become quite a big star after stealing the show with this role.

God loves you just the way you are. But He loves you too much to let you stay that way.
Junebug (Anne)

Keep trying!!

I'll bet you've seen at least 6 or 7 of these films.

:)

I recognize 2 and 9, but I can't place them. I recognized Bull Durham, too, which surprises me since I've only seen it once, about 15 years ago. I've seen Kill Bill, but I still don't remember that one.

I just found #1 by accident while preparing my own list. That's one of my favorites, too.

One of my all time favorites!!

Not a lot of quotes that wouldn't give it away though.

#9 is My Cousin Vinny.

14 - Bend It Like Beckham! Being an athlete who was somewhat androgynous (and much more interested in sports than boys) in high school, I love that movie.

Robin said...

huh? my other post disappeared.

I found #2 while I was preparing my list, so I couldn't use that movie. That's another of my all-time favorites.

Brave Sir Robin said...

Anne got #15!

But no, Pretty Woman did not win an Oscar.
:(

Anne said...

I didn't think so (I mean, really), but that was the only movie I could think of that could plausibly have used blow jobs and ties in the same sentence, lol.

Older than that.

I don't remember the quote, but your "hints" for #5 are leading me to guess "Hannah and her Sisters."

By the way, this is from a previous movie post of yours . . . but I want to nominate "No Country for Old Men" and "Atonement" for excellent film adaptations. I actually liked the film of "Atonement" better than the book. And I think that "No Country for Old Men" is one of the all-time best adaptations. Very, very faithful to the book -- but streamlined in all of the right places. I just finished the book last night, and after I finish ruminating on it I feel a post coming on.

Brave Sir Robin said...

Bad typing!! Above (sorry)

Bee - No, not Hannah and Her Sisters.

Believe it or not, I haven't had a chance to see either of those!

I read No Country last year, but I just haven't had a chance to see it.

I have been waiting to see Atonement, because I haven't read it yet!!

I have been working so much, (and I've been really down) I just haven't done anything lately.

I've got to get out more!

Welcome to the site!

Thunderbird said...

#11 - The Outlaw Josey Wales

Brave Sir Robin said...

Ding!

We have a winner on #11.

Bee said...

I'm trying again for #5 on the basis of your BIG hint.

Wild at Heart? I seem to remember that Laura Dern and Diane Ladd are in that one. Nic Cage, of course. I haven't seen it in ages, though.

Oh, and don't worry to read "Atonement" first . . . just treat yourself.

I'm sorry that you've been working too much . . . it definitely cuts into fun-time.

By the way, I'm also "Beth" -- sometimes I forget to use my blogonym. I linked up with you on Homesick Texan.

I figured that out after the fact.
:)

I followed the link back.

Love your site btw.

Yes!! Wild At Heart!!! Most of the quotes from it are dead give aways. This one was more obscure.

I've been thinking it's way past time for some food posts.

joshhill1021 said...

#3 is Scotland, PA.

That final hint is what gave it away for me. Thanks for it.

Brave Sir Robin said...

YEAH!!!!!!!!

Someone knows Scotland, PA.!!!!!!

Love, Love, Love that film!
