Happy Birthday

Ansel Adams
2.20.02 - 4.22.84

A good photograph is knowing where to stand.

There is another birthday of note today. . . . .

I can't make up my mind if he should be remembered as a tortured artist, unable to control the demon muses that produced his genius, or as a rich punk who cheated himself, his family and his fans because of his selfishness.

I won't solve that debate today.

Lithium

I'm so happy
Cause today I found my friends
They're in my head

I'm so ugly
But that's ok, 'cause so are you
We've broke our mirrors
Sunday morning
Is everyday for all I care
And I'm not scared
Light my candles
In a daze 'cause I've found god

Yeah he he yeah

I'm so lonely and
That's ok, I shaved my head
And I'm not sad
And just maybe
I'm to blame for all I've heard
And I'm not sure

I'm so excited
I can't wait to meet you there
And I dont' care
I'm so horny but
That's ok, my will is good

Yeah he he yeah

I like it
I'm not gonna crack
I miss you
I'm not coming back
I love you
I'm not gonna crack
I killed you
I'm not coming back
I like it
I'm not gonna crack
I miss you
I'm not coming back
I love you
I'm not gonna crack
I killed you
I'm not coming back

that is a very good question...

he robbed the world of his art too soon...and who knows what the lives of his wife and child would have been like today...

while i see why people say so, i hesitate to call people who commit suicide selfish, only b/c it's hard to tell what people are going through when they reach that point...it's a dark dark and scary place...there is no rational thought in that place...

but when you are spiraling there, there are things you can do to help you not arrive there...

i think the acts leading up to, including if you are blowing your mind on drugs constantly instead of getting help, are selfish...which makes their deaths selfish...

it's a sticky term for me...but i know what you mean...and sadly, we may never know the truth...

wonder if he actually believed in nirvana...

PS, did you take the photo at the top?

Yes, I used to call him (and others) selfish, until I looked into that abyss myself. We can never, ever know the darkness someone faces. I have since changed my way of thinking, and of talking. I know for me, it was the thought that it would have been a selfish act to deprive my children of a parent they needed that made my situation clearer.

Heavens no. (I wish)
That is a photo by Ansel Adams. In re-reading that, I guess I didn't make it clear that it is his birthday.

I see Cobain as a tortured soul, but then I am of the generation that was inspired by him. I remember the rapid rise of Nirvana and the inability he seemed to have in handling this. I still can listen to Nirvana and hear an echo of my past and my life at that time.
