Yes, He's Still Alive . . . . *** updated

Happy (One day belated) birthday to Abe Vigoda.

Consider this an open thread for all things Oscar.

I'm really busy, and truthfully - I'm struggling a bit, and I'm sure you guys are tired of hearing me whine about it, so I've promised myself this will stop being the "Damn I miss Rene'" blog.

Bear with me.

Topics for discussion in comments, (People, talk, . . . . talk already!):

Oscars -
Did they get it right?
Biggest surprise?
Worst outfit?
Best Speech?
Worst part of show? etc.....

Politics -
(No Dem primary talk allowed - I'm done with it)
60 minutes blackout? ( I've got a lot to say about this)
McCain bashing is always welcome.
Prairie View A&M student march to the polls.
Ralph Nader

The Weekend -
I worked and went to the Theatre, (big mistake - that's mostly the reason for my funk)
What did you do?
Perfect weather here, how about where you are?

Food -
Cook or eat anything good?
See a great website and or recipe?
Have you browsed Jaden's site yet?

Anything -
It's Monday, I worked all weekend, and I'm pretty down, help me out here folks, and as ALWAYS :

Blog-Whoring is not only acceptable, it is encouraged!!

Great, great, fabulous, excellent green company that I've been wanting to post about again.

Bastard Fairies.

1974 was a good year *** UPDATE - That is, look at what all was released that year! -

Blazing Saddles
The Great Gatsby
Chinatown
Murder On The Orient Express
The Godfather: Part II
Young Frankenstein
The Man With The Golden Gun

Look through the rest of that list, there are at least 8 other films that are worthy of remembrance for one reason or another. Yeah, it was a good year.

Interesting to note how some films hold up, Blazing Saddles is no less funny, or topical, or relevant today than it was 34 years ago, same for Gatsby and Godfather II. The trial of Billy Jack, not so much, but it was pretty damn good back in the day.

Feel free to drop links in comments!!!

"Technical errors in New York"?

Err what?

I can not believe they put that excuse out there.

I know now that CBS thinks the majority of American's have an IQ on the same level as a dandelion.

Pricks..

Thank you for stopping by Sirens Chronicles. We appreciate your readership too.

I do enjoy finding blogs with bloggers that are serious, and informed. I consider you both of those. ;)

Dusty, I love your avatar (I have a grey cat named Dusty).

Anyway... I watched most of the Oscars, and wasn't surprised by any of the winners.

Food: I had a big cooking weekend, which included a lot of soup. From roast chicken to chicken stock to chicken and rice soup, as well as Tuscan white bean & kale soup (post forthcoming). Also: whole grain pancakes with blueberry-maple syrup, mini pear-and-ginger cakes (post also forthcoming), and gingersnaps for a friend who's just moved to D.C. to start a new job.

Hang in there! It might be Monday, but there's another weekend just around the corner.

Ps: I LOVE How to Suck Less at Photoshop. I've only seen the clone stamp one, but I can't wait to watch more.

I cook my butt off too, it was the ball and chain's birthday Sunday, so he got food he loves (even if their not good for his diabetic ass)and my son came by knowing full well we had lots of goodies to munch on.

I missed the Oscars, my med's kicked in and I fell asleep :(

I watched part of the Oscars, if only to get my Viggo fix. He is totally rocking the beard.

I cooked on Sunday - lentil and veggie stew with ginger and onions.

And I did my taxes. Go me.

And watched Sicko, and cried.

I have Sicko on DVD and I watch it at least once a month.

When he goes after Hillary, I want to catch all of it..to toss back at folks that think she got hosed on her healthcare plan back in the day.

Unknown said...

Oh, it makes me angry too. Sicko is a great documentary about how bad it is for folks with health insurance.

Its a wonderful movie that points to socialized medicine as the only path for us, as a nation, to take.

Yes on both counts.

Heather, fresh or ground ginger in the lentils?

GourmetGoddess said...

I used a hunk of dried ginger root.... I use it in all my beans. It adds a subtle flavor but, more importantly, helps with the unhappy side effects.

helps with the unhappy side effects.

Does it really?

GourmetGoddess said...

yup... as does savory

ooh...hmm...i will get back to you on that ;)

Is Red Queen no longer talking to me?

I second Gourmet Goddess' comment about watching the Oscars if only to see Viggo--whah! I was on a plane headed to Vegas. My husband's playing poker downstairs so I'm thinking that buys me time to go 'net surfing for Viggo pics and for the good/bad Oscar fashions. Hey, it's a girl thing but it's a requirement of the gender to critique the gowns!

i don't think spats run that deep (the difference b/t a "fight" and a "spat" can be found in the "gilmore girls"...a fight takes time to unravel, a spat can be diffused in the moment using a spatula) w/ her...but i don't know how much history you have...i do not feel qualified to answer that...but i would like to think that she is not *not* speaking to you...

she has been pretty blog obscure as of late...

these primaries have a lot of us too riled up...i want them to be over...

It's also the one time of year us straight males can comment on a dress without raising eyebrows.

I LOVED Cate Blanchett's

Did anyone else notice Anne Hathaway pick her butt on camera?
